in my-not-so-humble-opinion :

leader is not the opposite of follower, as to lead is not the same as to be followed. trend-setter is not the opposite of trend-victim, as to set your own style is not the same as to make others' style a crap.

both leader and trend-setter stand alone. they did not depend on others to be the way they are right now.

but, of course, they did need others. 

they need to see them. 

and then, if anything, they decided go separate ways on their own.
